Spiritual Narcissism
We Are All Hypocrites
This series explores the tension between self-awareness and communal connection, diving into the paradox of spiritual practices that promise enlightenment but sometimes breed individualism. As I crossed paths with and immersed myself in spiritual communities, I found myself questioning: How much of our "self-discovery" actually distances us from each other? While self-reflection often helps us better understand and honor our needs, it can also make us less willing to embrace discomfort—even when it's for the greater good.
The project was born from the raw, astonishing emotions of a friendship breakup. Like the grief of a romantic split, this experience ranged from hurt and sadness, to agitation, anger, insecurity — but without the social acceptance typically granted to romantic loss. Hence I experience a dash of shame as well. This emotional journey led me to reflect on how we process, or fail to process, the end of meaningful friendships.
